Movie Review :

Jawahar Mithran struck gold with Yaaradi Nee Mohini and obviously Kutty, though a remake of the Telugu blockbuster Aarya, was expected to be in Yaaradi League. But Kutty is nothing much than sheer disappointment, amidst other movies that failed to impress this Pongal.

The Plot:

Arjun (Sameer Dattani) son of a political honcho Devanayagam (Radha Ravi) has a great likeliness for college belle Geetha (Shriya Saran). Geeta is coerced to falling in love with Arjun after he threatens to end his life if she doesn’t accept his proposal.

Now enters Kutty (Dhanush), the clichéd happy-go-lucky youngster, who has no worries in life. Kutty falls in love with Geetha at first sight and yes he does ask her out, but Geetha refuses the proposal as she’s already pitted herself into redundant a scenario. The rest of the plot is all about Kutty winning her love with his affirmative approach and self-confidence.

Performance:

Aarya made Allu Arjun a household name overnight and raked in record breaking moolah 4 years ago. Nevertheless Kutty, with a few present day adaptations, fails to impress. The plot is sluggish and so is the first half. Jawahar tries to catch up with some pace during the latter part of the film. The grisly music doesn’t help the plot either. Balasubramaniam's cinematography is commendable.

Dhanush and his boy-next-door image in Kutty isn’t as special as he’s been seen before, though he comes up with a pretty decent performance.

Shriya has off late been noticed more for her oomphy image, but her simple looks here, give her an opportunity for some not so bad performance.

Sameer should rather stick to his Kannada flick, for he at least has some sorts of a fan base there, who are content with his below par recital.

Kutty, which in Tamil literally means small, doesn’t live up to the expectations. Ah! Well, the film at least lives up to its title.
