Story - Anandha Thandavam

Raghupathy is the son of Govindaraj (Kitty), a supervisor with a state government office. He falls in love with Madhumitha (Tamanna), the daughter of his dad’s boss Gopinath. While the feelings seem mutual and Gopinath agrees to their marriage, he does a complete turn around when he receives a proposal from a U.S. rich boy, Radhakrishnan (Rishi). Madhumita and Radhakrishnan get married and leave for America. Raghupathy then goes to New York for higher studies and his old romance is rekindled. To add to the confusion, there is the  US born Ratna (Rukmini), who wants to come back to India and settle down with Raghupathy. How all this works out forms the climax of the movie.

Ananda Thandavam - Outdated

Based on Sujata’s novel Pirivom Santhippom, Ananda Thandavan is the story of Raghupathy (Siddharth), the son of Govindaraj (Kitty), a supervisor with a state government office. He falls in love with Madhumitha (Tamanna), the daughter of his dad’s boss Gopinath. While the feelings seem mutual and Gopinath agrees to their marriage, he does a complete turn around when he receives a proposal from a U.S. rich boy, Radhakrishnan (Rishi). Madhumita and Radhakrishnan get married and leave for America. Raghupathy then goes to New York for higher studies and what happens there forms the rest of the movie.

While a lot was expected of Ananda Thandavam, the movie has, sadly, failed to live up to expectations. Lacking the intensity and conviction of the novel, the film does seem a little too long and outdated for a lot of today’s audiences. The characterization of the heroine is espescially unconvincing as she appears to be an enigma and a bundle of contradictions. The music drags and poor editing and Jeeva Shankar's rather dull cinematography don’t help the movie either. As for the performances of the lead pair, Tamanna has delivered a neat performance but Siddhart has some way to go. The real show stealer though is Kitty who plays Siddharth’s practical and loving father. Overall, a rather disappointing movie.
