Bollywood celebrities are happy that Article 377 has finally been nullified and homosexuality is legalized in India.
New York star John Abraham thinks that it’s a step in the positive direction and he is also personally quite happy that the high court had finally given equal rights to everyone.
On adding further, he thinks that in a democracy like India, where right to equality is a constitutional right, it was very important to give homosexuals their due.
As for veteran Aamir Khan, he welcomed the decision of the Delhi high court in nullifying Article 377. He in fact, supports the right of every individual to live the way he or she chooses. He clearly stated that as a society individuals should move towards being inclusive and respectful for each other’s differences.
Actress Celina Jaietly on the other hand has been receiving threats from certain radical and cultural groups. But she simply stood for the fundamental right of a human being. She claimed that there are many people in the film industry who are homosexuals and that they will now be able to come out in the open. She went on to say that some of the people who have touched her life were actually homosexuals and that she owes a lot to them.
A saving grace for the homosexual community in India was much needed for over two centuries now. But now that it has arrived, society will have to buckle up and move on with the changing times.
